Chasing Fog 2012

The year is drawing to a close. It’s been an interesting one.

Looks a bit like we might have a cold (by So. Cali standards), wet winter. There’s snow early in the mountains, and we’ve had more than the usual amount of rain.

The week of Dec 1st saw the first real moisture hit – a triple storm, which means one storm after another after another, none of them particularly powerful but combined adding up to a lot of fog, drizzle, and rain.

This video was shot during two consecutive days running, the first an out-and-back up Brown Mountain, and the second day up via El Prieto and back down via Brown Mountain.

There were times on both days that the fog was so thick it was disorienting. I would see things along the edge of the trail that I’d never noticed before, and that combined with an inability to see any of my landmarks off the trail made me wonder on a few occasions if I hadn’t taken a wrong turn somewhere. Luckily, there aren’t really any wrong turns to take.
