First Rain

Sometime today we are supposed to have the first rain of the season.

It was supposed to start light yesterday and turn into thunderstorms by this morning, but they keep pushing it back. I guess it’s lingering in Santa Barbara.

The first rain in LA is always tough. It’s probably not unlike giving a homeless man a shower. There’s a lot of grime to wash off. The streets get slick with oil that has been caking on for 8 months. The gutters fill up quickly with trash, and the beaches are flooded with garbage and sewage.

The second rain is always beautiful, once the grime is washed away.
